As domestic vote-by-mail ballots continue hitting mail boxes statewide this week, Florida voters have a clear choice between two competing visions for Florida – continuing 20 years of backwards Republican policies that have left Floridians with underfunded public schools, sabotaged healthcare, and staggering working poor numbers, or electing candidates like U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and Mayor Andrew Gillum who will put working Floridians first. That’s why For Our Future Florida is conducting an aggressive voter contact and outreach program through canvassing, digital, mail and phones.
For Our Future Florida and allied organizations are talking with voters about what is at stake in this election and how their vote can be cast through vote-by-mail, early vote or on Election Day. With more than 620 staff and growing in 21 offices, For Our Future Florida is implementing a statewide voter contact program with paid communication and a comprehensive field effort with boots-on-the-ground. Targeting sporadic general election voters statewide for mobilization efforts, the target universe (1,042,149 total voters) is 26% African-American, 26% Hispanic, 42% Caucasian and 3% Asian. The universe skews female at 61% and 32% are under 35 years.
In the field, our on-the-ground voter contact canvassing program is focused on 1,042,149 targeted voters (745,889 households) in Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Duval, Gadsden, Hillsborough, Flagler, Leon, Manatee, Marion, Miami-Dade, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Seminole, St. Lucie and Volusia. These voters will not only be a part of our paid communication program through digital and mail, but the For Our Future Florida team will be texting, making phone calls, and going door-to-door to have personal conversations about what’s at stake, how these voters can turn out to vote and what is needed to vote.
Voters in For Our Future Florida’s canvass universe will receive 3 passes at their door from Labor Day to Election Day. More than 900,000 door knocks have already taken place as a part of the statewide field program. Supplementing the canvass program will be an aggressive digital push as well as direct mail, earned media support and contact via phone.
Hispanic Outreach Program
For Our Future Florida is also running a targeted outreach program aimed at reaching thousands of Hispanic voters. Connecting Hispanic voters with issues impacting their communities and what is at stake in this election is key to our outreach. Placing organizers on the ground in Orange, Osceola, and Volusia counties, For Our Future Florida’s program will drive voter turnout among Hispanic voters and newly arrived Puerto Ricans by communicating with them at their front steps through door-to-door canvassing, and in their neighborhoods by partnering with organizations on the ground like Mi Familia Vota and Hispanic Federation. Social service fairs organized in each county will bring vendors and agencies together to help connect Hispanic communities with available social services, and voter education events organized in each county will be advertised and inform communities about the significance of voting in the midterms and the differences between voting in Puerto Rico and Florida.
Along with reaching voters at their doors and in their communities, the Hispanic Outreach program will include 5 pieces of direct mail going statewide to 270,000 Hispanic households to educate voters on the U.S. Senate race and the clear differences between Senator Bill Nelson and Rick Scott.
With so much at stake this election cycle, Floridians can easily have their voice heard by casting a vote-by-mail ballot from the comfort of their home. For Our Future Florida will be running an extensive seven figure vote-by-mail (VBM) program primarily aimed encouraging sporadic voters to return their VBM ballots. For Our Future Florida’s program targets 594,000households across all 67 counties with 3 pieces of mail. This program represents a continued commitment from For Our Future Florida’s 2016 VBM generation efforts which automatically renewed voters for the 2018 cycle. The mail program will be supported by a paid phone, peer-to-peer texting and digital advertising program which will help maximize our efforts to get sporadic voters to return their VBM ballots. Additionally, all For Our Future Florida’s canvassing efforts will include VBM asks at the doors in our targeted counties.
